James 1:12-16 (NASB)
12 Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. 13 No one is to say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself does not tempt anyone. 14 But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust. 15 Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it has run its course, brings forth death. 16 Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers and sisters.
Theme: To progress in the path to spiritual maturity, Christians must continually overcome temptations of the flesh.

James 1:5-8 (NASB)
5 But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. 6 But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For that person ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord, 8 being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
Theme: Christians should seek spiritual maturity by asking God for wisdom and praying with a believing heart.
Some “How-tos” of gaining wisdom and making petitions to God
1) Acknowledge your need for wisdom (1:5)
2) Ask God for wisdom (1:5)
3) Ask God in faith, for everything (1:6-8)

James 1:2-4 (NASB)
2 Consider it all joy, my brothers and sisters, when you encounter various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. 4 And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
Theme: We as Christians can take joy in our trials because we know that God is using them to grow us to spiritual maturity.
Three Encouragements to help us deal with life’s trials:
1) Put on the Right Attitude in our Trials (1:2)
2) Have Accurate Knowledge about our Trials (1:3)
3) Understand the Intended Outcome of our Trials (1:4)

James 5:1-6 (NASB)
1 Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries which are coming upon you.
2 Your riches have rotted and your garments have become moth- eaten.
3 Your gold and your silver have rusted; and their rust will be a witness against you and will consume your flesh like fire. It is in the last days that you have stored up your treasure!
4 Behold, the pay of the laborers who mowed your fields, and which has been withheld by you, cries out against you; and the outcry of those who did the harvesting has reached the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth.
5 You have lived luxuriously on the earth and led a life of wanton pleasure; you have fattened your hearts in a day of slaughter.
6 You have condemned and put to death the righteous man; he does not resist you.

Sermon20110626
James 4:11-12
11 Do not speak against one another, brethren. He who speaks against a brother or judges his brother, speaks against the law and judges the law; but if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge of it.
12 There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the One who is able to save and to destroy; but who are you to judge your neighbor?
1 Slander is a sin against others
2 Slander is a sin against the law
3 Slander is a sin against God
How to combat this sin:
1 Sins of the tongue come from the heart.
2 Love your neighbor as your self and obey the royal law.
3 Seek to love the Lord your God and fear him.

Sermon20110306
James 4:4-6 (NASB)
4 You adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.
5 Or do you think that the Scripture speaks to no purpose: “ He jealously desires the Spirit which He has made to dwell in us”?
6 But He gives a greater grace. Therefore it says, “ God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”
A friend of God’s is not friend of the world!
A friend of God’s has a new nature!
A friend of God’s is humble!
