John 3:16
16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.

Theme : Five aspects of God’s Christmas gift, Jesus Christ, which make Him the greatest gift ever given.

I. The Giver of the gift is God

II. The Motive for the gift is pure, unadulterated, love.

III. The Recipient of the gift is the world.

IV. The Gift is Jesus, God’s only begotten Son.

V. The Relevance of the Gift is the Eternal Salvation of Man.

Three Right Responses:

A. Accept God’s gift through believing in His Son – John 1:12
B. Love Him with all your being.
1. Love Him above all others – Matt. 10:37
2. Obey His commands – John 14:15, 21
3. Worship and serve Him as your God – Matthew 2:11; 14:33; 28:17; Revelation 5:14
C. Share the good news of His birth, life and especially His death and resurrection – Luke 2:18; Matthew 28:19

Theme: six reasons why Jesus had to be born so we would marvel at God’s glory and gift to mankind.

I. To fulfill prophecy

A. Mary would conceive and bear a Son – Matt.1:21; Luke1:31
B. The virgin shall be with child – Matt 1:22-23 (Isaiah 7:14); Luke 1:34
C. The birthplace would be Bethlehem – Matt 2:5-6
D. He would be called out of Egypt – Matt 2:15
E. Weeping and mourning over the slaughter of babies in Bethlehem – Matt 2:16-18
F. He would be called a Nazarene – Matt 2:23
G. He will be great – Luke 1:32a
H. He will be called the Son of the Most High – Luke 1:32b, 35b
I. He will be the eternal ruler of Israel – Luke 1:32c-33; Matthew 2:6
J. The Holy Spirit will impregnate Mary – Luke 1:35a
K.The baby will be wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger – Luke 2:12

II. To be the King and Ruler over Israel

A. The announcement to Mary – Luke 1:32b-33 (cf. 2Sam 7:12-15)
B. The arrival of the wisemen – Matthew 2:1-6

III. To personally reveal himself to us.

A. His name Immanuel – Matt 1:23 (Isaiah 7:14; 8:10)
B. His title Son of the Most High – Matt 1:23; Luke 1:32, 35

IV. To be Savior of his people (and all men)

A. His name, Jesus – Matt 1:21; Luke 1:31
B. His title, Christ – Matt 2:4; Luke 2:11

V. Fullness of time had come – Galatians 4:4

A. God sent His Son –
B. He was born of a woman –
C. He was born under the law –

VI. To draw men to worship.

A. Worship of Christ – Matt 2:2,11
B. Worship of God – Luke 2:14, 20

Remembering the Resurrection
Luke 24:1-12

Nine purposes of the resurrection of Christ:

1. Completes the cross of Christ Luke 24:46
2. Fulfills the Scriptures 1 Cor. 15:4
3. Gives power to the gospel Romans 1:16
4. Confirms Him as the Son of God with power Romans 1:4
5. Establishes Him as the judge of all mankind Acts 17:31; 10:42
6. Guarantees the believer’s own future resurrection to life 1 Cor. 15:20-23
7. Provides the central theme of gospel preaching Acts 3:15; 4:33
8. Demonstrates the exclusive truth of the Christian faith 1 Cor. 15:16-19
9. Precipitates the high priestly ministry of Christ Romans 8:34; Heb. 7:25

I. Remember the discovery of the women vv. 1-4

A. What they found
B. What they did not find
C. What they experienced

II. Remember the disclosure of the angels vv. 5-8

A. What they asked the women
B. What they revealed to the women
C. What they commanded the women

III. Remember the disbelief of the disciples vv. 9-12

A. The unbelief of the majority
B. The investigation of Peter
C. The wonder of Peter
